REDGUM RGDVD1 - first release info.
Hi, all REDGUM enthusers!
Well, here
it is at last.........
the REDGUM
RGDVD1 DVD/CD Player.
After much
experimentation (electronic) and exasperation (cosmetics), we have decided to release
the DVD with its original plastic (average/yuck!) front panel. The reasons are
purely financial. The existing design is such that the front panel is
particularly difficult to change, requiring major circuit board replacements as
well as extra component sourcing. We have been 'fiddling' with this for months
now and the projected costing would take the unit well over $AUD2000.00 RRP. We
did not think that such a price increase for cosmetics alone was
justified.
So, the
good news!
As a CD
Player, its sonics are better than the RGCD2, and very close to the RGCD5.
(It uses Burr-Brown PCM1720 Dacs and direct-coupled bi-mosfet output stages) it
is FULLY remote controlled, and still has a replaceable DVDRom drive (A
Japanese Matsushita/Panasonic drive is original equipment) this time hooked
into a full computer for versatility & upgradability.
Further
good news!
Its video
stage is also excellent! - Output is via composite video or S-video connectors.
The Copyright default zone is Region 4 (Australia) but can easily be changed,
using the remote control, to any zone.
If you wish to use the unit with other manufacturer's equipment (heaven forbid!
:-) ) the RGDVD1 has inbuilt Dolby 5.1 decoder and Dolby AC3 optical out.
The final
good news!
The RRP is only
$AUD1495.00 !!!!!!!
The
only/minor bad news is that they will be limited in supply until
early November.
This is
your chance to be the first!
Composite video and
S-Video outputs also Dolby AC3 Optical
